History

On April 22, 1500, an expedition of the Portuguese crown led by Pedro Alvares Cabral arrived in the territory that is currently known as the Federative Republic of Brazil. Very attractive for its gold deposits, and production of sugar, coffee and rubber, it took on great prominence for the royal family of Portugal, who in 1807 the Portuguese king Dom João VI, due to Napoleon Bonaparte’s invasion of Portugal, decided to settle in Rio. de Janeiro provisionally, and at the end of the war in Europe, he decided to stay in Brazil and make it the first country in America with a European monarch. In 1822 it achieved its independence, forming the Empire of Brazil under a parliamentary monarchy led by the descendant of the Portuguese Dom João VI, who later in 1889, due to a military coup, became a federal republic. In the first half of the 20th century there is political and social instability due to authoritarian regimes and dictatorships in power, which later the Brazilian people, and until 1989 elections considered democratic were held for the first time. Currently, Brazil is the largest economic power in the Latin American region, and has an important role in the political and social aspects worldwide.

Brazil is a country characterized by its cultural diversity, where all kinds of religions, ethnic groups, and traditions converge. E 64% of the Brazilian population is Catholic, which makes it the country with the largest number of Catholics in the world.
