On April 22, 1500, an expedition of the Portuguese crown led by Pedro Alvares Cabral arrived in the territory that is currently known as the Federative Republic of Brazil. Very attractive for its gold deposits, and production of sugar, coffee and rubber, it took on great prominence for the royal family of Portugal, who in 1807 the Portuguese king Dom João VI, due to Napoleon Bonaparte’s invasion of Portugal, decided to settle in Rio. de Janeiro provisionally, and at the end of the war in Europe, he decided to stay in Brazil and make it the first country in America with a European monarch.
